After attempting to rehab and return to play football in 2012, it was announced that Missouri Tigers' running back Henry Josey will be shut down and miss the entire season. Josey tore his ACL, MCL and patellar tendon against the Texas Longhorns last November.

Head coach Gary Pinkel made the announcement on Monday that Josey was out for the season:

Henry Josey will not play this year, you probably figured that out. I tell you what, in practice yesterday, it was kind of interesting, it was Sunday evening and offense and defense were practicing on both ends of the field in The Zou and all of a sudden I see this guy in a red jersey with his shoulder pads on and he is striding the full length of the field and I'm standing at the 50-yard line and it was Henry and he was running and running good and he was running hard.

He's a remarkable kid and I'm so impressed and I went over there and gave him a big hug and high five. He will be back one of these days and I have to say that and I admire him so much as he's battled through all the adversity he's had.

With Josey out, the starting running back for Missouri will be senior Kendial Lawrence.

It's been a long road to recovery for Missouri Tigers running back Henry Josey since he tore the anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament and patellar tendon in his left knee during a November 2011 game against the Texas Longhorns. It will continue to be a long road ahead, as Josey is expected to miss the Tigers' entire 2012 season.

It's been hard at times for Josey to continue working to get back on the field eventually with the Tigers, but in an interview, he said that it's easy to find motivation to continue whenever he looks at his 16-month-old son, Henry Jr.:

"Any time I got to go home for a break, when I wasn't rehabbing, I spent every day at home with him. Pretty much 24-seven, the whole time I was with him," Henry Josey said. "That was something I needed, especially going through my injury. He took a lot of stuff off my mind. He helped me out a lot, too."

Even after learning he will likely miss the entire 2012 season, Josey has continued to work out with the Tigers, saying he's glad to even have the opportunity to do so:

"I'm happy just to be back out here. I don't even know if I was supposed to play football again, with how bad my injury was, let alone, be doing what I'm doing now," Henry Josey said. "Me being out here is just a big thing. Me putting my pads on is big thing to me. I wouldn't be disappointed, it's whatever I have to do really."

Missouri Tigers running back Henry Josey will not likely play for the Tigers in 2012, according to a tweet by ESPN's Edward Aschoff, as he is still recovering from a knee injury suffered in Missouri's game against the Texas Longhorns on November 12.

Josey suffered a triple tear of his knee, his ACL, MCL and patellar tendon were all torn. Prior to that injury, Josey had led the Big 12 in rushing with 1,168 yards and averaged an NCAA-leading 8.6 yards per carry. He had rushed for nine touchdowns, including three in a 14 carry, 263 yards rushing performance against Western Illinois on September 17.

The hope here is that Josey's surgeries will help him recapture the form that he showed last season. Josey appears to be trying as hard as he can to come back as soon as he can, but I'm sure Tiger fans would rather see Josey back at full strength after a long hiatus.

While it remains unclear when he'll be able to return to the field, we know as much that Missouri running back Henry Josey will soon undergo a second surgery on his injured left knee.

His coach, Gary Pinkel, weighed in on Josey's outlook, and had this to say about next season and beyond:

"He's doing very, very well. I always get the question, 'Will he be able to play this season?' And my answer is he's got three years to play two. So, when he's ready to play, that's when he'll play."

Josey suffered the nasty injury in the Tigers' final game of the season against Texas. The recovery time from the injury has been prolonged because he needed to allow his knee time to recover from an initial surgery to repair his torn patellar tendon and meniscus. Now that he has sufficiently bounced back from that, he can move forward with tending to his ACL.

The surgery is expected to take place within the next two to three weeks.

Missouri Tigers running back Henry Josey, who suffered a devastating knee injury last season in which he tore his ACL, MCL and Patella, is working hard to get back on the field. The sophomore is hitting the weights hard to try to get to the point in which he can move his knee at 90 degrees so he can have his final surgery and his offensive coordinator David Yost is impressed with the running back's work ethic.

"He's doing tremendous on his rehab," said Missouri Tigers offensive coordinator David Yost. "He is working as hard in there as our guys working in the weight room to get himself back."

Josey led the Big 12 with 116 rushing yards per game before his injury against the Texas Longhorns in November. It's currently unclear at to whether or not he'll be ready for the start of the season, but if he's not, coaches plan to red shirt him so he doesn't lose a year of eligibility. Even if that's the case, Yost isn't worried about the running back position, though he knows have Josey back in 2012 would be nice.

"It would be really deep if you sit Henry Josey on top of that list as completely healthy, but I think we are going to be in good shape there," said Yost. "If Henry's back it's a bonus and we will get to just go and attack with him."

The early word on Henry Josey’s injury from yesterday’s Missouri win over Texas 17-5 is that they’ve lost their star running back for the season. In a year where the breakout back was leading the Big 12 in rushing and averaging an NCAA high 8.6 yards per carry, Josey’s stock was sailing high. One play later and now everyone has to hope that proper rehab can help him return to form.

The word from Howard Richards, Missouri color commentator, is that the injury is a triple tear within his knee. He writes, "Just heard news about Tigers’ Henry Josey. Triple tear—ACL, MCL, patellar tendon. Devastating injury. Please keep him in your prayers.”

Mike DeArmond of the Kansas City Star confirmed the report that he’s out for the season and had words from Gary Pinkel after the game.

“I really feel bad for Henry,” said the Missouri coach. “Obviously, our whole football team does. Whatever happens, even if he has to have surgery, or whatever, we’ve got the best people to take care of him and we’ll get him back 100 percent.”

The rumors were already running rampant that Henry Josey, the star running back of the Missouri Tigers and leading rusher in the Big 12, was likely out for the season. Post-game reports from the Tigers upset win over the Texas Longhorns confirmed that Josey’s season was over and yet the official results were still unknown. However, it’s now clear the injury to Josey’s left knee is worse than anyone could have believed.

According to Howard Richards via Twitter, the injury is triple fold. He writes, “Just heard news about Tigers’ Henry Josey. Triple tear—ACL, MCL, patellar tendon. Devastating injury. Please keep him in your prayers.”

Josey ends the season among the best running backs in the country and was having a sensation breakout year. He ends the season with 1,168 rushing yards and 9 rushing touchdowns.

Mike DeArmond is confirming an earlier report with the worst news possible for the Missouri Tigers: Henry Josey is indeed out for the season. DeArmond just wrote via Twitter, “Orthodepic surgeon Dr. Pat Smith just told me Henry Josey is ‘Done. Done for the year.’ Ruptured tendon in left knee. Will still have an MRI.”

Josey was just announced as a semi-finalist for the Doak Walker Award, an annual prize given to the nation’s top running back in college football every February. Instead of being among the ones considered, Josey will be forced to rehab and hope he can return to form next season. At the point where his season ended, he was leading the Big 12 in rushing on the year with 1,168 yards on 145 carries.

Kendial Lawrence now takes over the starting tailback position for Mizzou and he performed well enough today against a stout Longhorns defense that they can still feel good about getting productivity from the spot with 106 yards on 18 carries and one touchdown.
