The Missouri Tigers' maiden voyage through the SEC figures to be a rough one, if early (like, really early) betting lines are any indicator. Gambling web site Beyond The Bets put the capital "D" in "Degenerate Gambler" with the lines for the SEC's entire conference slate, and we love them for it. Here's how Mizzou fares:

Week 2: Georgia (-3) at Missouri

Week 4: Missouri at South Carolina (-11)

Week 6: Vanderbilt at Missouri (-10)

Week 7: Alabama (-13) at Missouri

Week 9: Kentucky at Missouri (-17)

Week 10: Missouri at Florida (-9.5)

Week 11: Missouri at Tennessee (-6)

Week 12: Missouri at Texas A&M (-2.5)

Save for what's assumed to be a lovely housewarming gift hosting Kentucky (welcome to the SEC East neighborhood, where that's a bit of a tradition), the rest of the year looks to be a slog for the Tigers. However, by virtue of being a 10 point favorite over Vandy (both teams are projected to go 2-6 in conference), the site has Mizzou finishing fifth in the division. Hey, provided they can sweep Southeastern Louisiana, Arizona State, UCF and Syracuse, that's a bowl bid, baby.

Missouri football fan, SEC acclimation, lesson #456: Always feign moral outrage at another conference team's legal woes (conversely, do everything you can, including going to law school, to explain away your own team's run-ins with the law). Do this because it often results in enough public attention to warrant suspensions that could help your own school's cause.

Case in point - Missouri's SEC opener against Georgia on September 9. The defending SEC East Champions should be considered the juggernaut of the division (oxymoron!), but an offseason rife with player misconduct (stealing things, smoking things, hitting ladies) could play in the favor of the Tigers.

At the moment, only starting corner Sanders Commings is officially suspended for two games, but you can expect Branden Smith, likely to have won the other starting corner job in August, to miss a 1-2 games on drug charges. With two corners gone and two highly-touted rising sophomore backups dismissed (see: stealing things) and now the losses of safety Bacari Rambo and linebacker Alec Ogletree for 2-4 games for a rumored failed drug test means that UGA could be without as many as four starters on defense when they travel to Columbia.

Luckily for the Bulldogs, MIssouri isn't a spread offense reliant on throwing the ball and featuring a returning starter at quarterback.

With the announcement of next season's SEC conference schedule, the Missouri Tigers are now focusing in on completing the nonconference portion of their slate. Thus far Missouri only has one nonconference game scheduled which is a September 15 match-up with Arizona State. Associate Atletic Director Mark Alnutt told reporters on Wednesday that he had sent out feelers to see who was interested.

"I'm putting feelers out there now to see who's available and who would be a good fit for us,"

Missouri has four open weekends with which to add three nonconference games. Alnutt said that the first priority was rescheduling previously contracted games with Miami (Ohio) and Southern Illinois. Missouri would like to fill the September 1 and November 17 slots with home games. They would prefer one of either the September 29 or October 20 slots to be the team's bye week.

Missouri will open play in the SEC next year with home games against Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

It seems as if Missouri's welcome to the SEC will be a very interesting one, as their schedule was released today. Click here for the schedule on MIssouri's official athletic website.

Some interesting things stand out when looking at the schedule from the perspective of a soon-to-be-graduated student like myself. The first thing I noticed was the great amount of home games the Tigers are likely to have in 2012.

The schedule features five home games at this point (four conference and one with Arizona State that concludes the home-and-home) with three slots left to fill. This means a ton of home games (or more than the normal six) for Mizzou students and fans alike, something I would have loved as a student.

The Tigers could conceivably have seven home games before traveling to Gainesville on Nov. 3 for their second road game of the year. This will be something to adjust to for Columbia residents, as Missouri has had only six home games each of the last four years because of annual neutral site games against Illinois and Kansas.

This could also be a positive for the team. With no need for a lot of travel at the beginning of the season, the Tigers will be able to have a lot of full practices and stay focused on opponents coming into town rather than traveling. A good start for Missouri under the leadership of James Franklin could snowball into a very successful season.
