Pete Prisco says hte Kansas City Chiefs have “lots of questions about them” in his final NFL Power Rankings, and the truth is that he’s right. Without a permanent head coach right now, the team is rudderless at the top of their leadership and questions also about at the most important position on the field at quarterback. Those are the things that placed the Chiefs so low in the standings and at No. 22 on Prisco’s final NFL Power Rankings.

Specifically, the Chiefs need to figure out what they’re going to do at the head coaching position. Romeo Crennel is the interim and players’ vote, yet Scott Pioli will definitely do what he feels is best for the team at this point and the rumors are that he’s currently interviewing several candidates, including Crennel for the job.

The Chiefs also have to decide whether Matt Cassel is still the team’s starting quraterback of the present and future or whether Kyle Orton deserves a contact offer. They could also decide to go big on a quarterback in the NFL Draft coming up in April.

As long as those two positions have a cloud of mystery around them, it will be difficult to believe in what the Chiefs are doing. For now, they are the 22nd best franchise in the NFL on Prisco’s list.

The Kansas City Chiefs finished in last place in the AFC West, so they can hardly expect to place high on anyone’s year-end NFL Power Rankings, but Bob McManaman’s is a bit low for a team that still finished within a game of first place (yes, that’s how weird the AFC West was this season) and suffered a slew of injuries to everyone but the team owner. McManaman of the Arizona Republic places the Chiefs at No. 21 on his last Power Rankings of the 2011 season.

They beat the Packers, should have beaten the Raiders, and then defeated the Broncos. The guess here is that Romeo Crennel will get the head coaching job. The players responded when he took over for Todd Haley.”

The Chiefs will have to hope next year is better just by having everyone healthy again — from Jamaal Charles to Eric Berry.

Kansas City finishes an injury-plagued year with a 7-9 record, an interim head coach and an uncertain future.

After a tumultuous season that saw three different starting QB's, the firing of head coach Todd Haley as well as a stunning upset of the previously unbeaten Green Bay Packers, the Kansas City Chiefs finished at No. 19 in the final SBNation NFL Power Rankings of 2011:

It's hard to remember now, but most analysts wrote off Kansas City after they lost RB Jamaal Charles and S Eric Berry to season-ending knee injuries in the first three weeks of the season.

However, the Chiefs recovered thanks to an incredibly weak AFC West, but they were done in by the season-ending injury to QB Matt Cassel and the inept play of his backup, Tyler Palko, who passed for only 796 yards in 4 starts, throwing 2 TD's and 7 INT's.

Whoever is coaching Kansas City next year, whether its interim coach Romeo Crennel or someone else, will have to hope the team has gotten over the injury bug.
