According to SB Nation's Jeremiah Oshan, 16 different NFL teams were present at Missouri's NFL Pro Day on Thursday to watch four former Tigers showcase their talents in hopes of boosting their draft stock. Of the teams at the pro day, Oshan said representatives from the St. Louis Rams, San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots, New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons were all in attendance.

The four players who worked out at the pro day were tight end Michael Egnew, defensive tackle Dominique Hamilton, wide receiver Jerrell Jackson and defensive end/outside linebacker Jacquies Smith, but the player most teams were probably keeping a close eye on was the 6-foot-6, 245-pound tight end, Egnew, who is considered this draft class' fifth best tight ends by analysts. Egnew is likely a mid-round pick and caught 50 passes for 523 yards and three touchdowns in 2011 and 90 catches for 762 yards and five touchdowns the year before when Blaine Gabbert was still the team's quarterback.

The lone representative from Missouri, Kansas or Kansas State playing in this week's Senior Bowl is also one of the top tight ends in the country, so at the very least he should see some decent playing time for the North roster. In this year's Senior Bowl, Michael Egnew is among the top pass catchers that scouts and general managers will be checking out as the Missouri tight end hopes to catch on with a team high in the upcoming 2012 NFL Draft.

Egnew caught 50 passes for Missouri this year for 523 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. He ended his Tigers career with 147 catches and 8 touchdowns and he's been named by numerous analysts as one of the top tight ends available. Given the success of Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski for the Patriots who are now in the Super Bowl, other teams are likely to grab for more playmakers at the position than normal.

That bodes well for Egnew's draft stock and a solid Senior Bowl week could go far for Egnew.

Michael Egnew is beginning to stand out among his peers in the upcoming tight end draft class for the 2012 NFL Draft to be held in late April. While there are many workouts, pro days, interviews and the NFL Combine between now and the actual draft weekend, Egnew’s stock is already at a solid spot for teams looking for a solid tight end addition.

Mike Mayock is the latest to give Egnew the stamp of approval, naming the Missouri Tigers product to his top five list of available TE’s. In front of Egnew, Mayock has Dwayne Allen at No. 1. Then he lists Coby Fleener, Orson Charles and Ladarius Green.

Egnew’s stock will likely be boosted by the ability of the New England Patriots to get to the Super Bowl. Tom Brady has enjoyed two prominent tight ends in the line-up this year with Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski as two of his primary receivers, along with Wes Welker and Deion Branch. The success of the Pats mixed with the copycat tendencies year to year of the most successful teams makes the acquisition of a strong pass catching tight end a plus in this year’s draft. That makes Egnew even more desirable.

Michael Egnew has been known regionally as one of the top tight ends in the Big 12, but now he's likely to get his due on a much higher level as the NFL Draft workouts commence and players begin to stick out to pro scouts. The Missouri Tigers know quite well what Egnew is capable of, and key comments and rankings are already coming out pointing to his abilities as well. Mel Kiper is the latest, placing Egnew in his top five tight ends available for the 2012 NFL Draft.

Overall, Kiper doesn't address Egnew's abilities when giving a quick overview of the crop of players at the position. He writes, "Teams across the NFL are now looking closely at the tight ends to see which could be that next hidden gem. I'm not sure this class has quite the upside of, say, the remarkable 2010 group, but there's some talent. Allen is really good athlete at his size and should help a team early. I can see him cracking the first round. Fleener has great hands, and was productive as a main target of Andrew Luck."

Egnew had 50 receptions for 523 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2011.
