While Bruce Chen has been an effective veteran for the Kansas City Royals the last few seasons, he's hardly known as the kind of pitcher who's going to run the table through all nine innings. He's typically good for five or six and then the bullpen must come in and do their work. GIven how Chen was roughed up yesterday against the Twins, perhaps he might want to keep from wasting 10 pitches of a limited arm on picking off a player.

For those who missed the Twins-Royals game yesterday, Chen had fun playing catch with Eric Hosmer at first while keeping tabs on Denard Span. The Check out the incredible 10 pickoff attempts for one runner:

The Kansas City Royals saw their winning streak snapped on Sunday with a 7-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins at Target Field.

The Twins jumped out to an early lead against a mostly ineffective Bruce Chen. Minnesota struck for four four runs in the first inning behind RBI singles from Joe Mauer and Danny Valencia and a two RBI double from Josh Willingham. Mike Moustakas got the Royals on the board in the second with a solo homer but the Twins answered back with two more against Chen in the third.

Jason Marquis picks up his second win of the season for the Twins allowing three runs and six hits over six innings of work. Chen takes the loss after allowing six hits and six runs in just 2.2 innings of work.

Billy Butler recorded three hits for the Royals and Moustakas went 2 for 3 with homer and two RBIs. Willingham and Valencia finished with three hits and had two RBIs each.

Bruce Chen was only able to record eight outs for the Kansas City Royals before eventually been replaced by Nate Adcock per manager Ned Yost. Chen's total damage? 6 earned runs on 6 hits and 2 walks on 62 pitches.

Joe Mauer and Danny Valencia each hit RBI singles in the first to get runs on the board, but Josh Willingham's triple opened the flood gates to give the Twins a 4-0 lead after one inning.

Mike Moustakas hit a solo homerun in the second inning to get the Royals on the board, but another triple by Danny Valencia along with a sacrifice fly by Ryan Doumit pushed the lead to 6-1 after three innings.

Moustakas drove in another run in the fourth to close the lead to 6-3, and if his bat can stay hot, then maybe the Royals can turn things around on Sunday in Target Field.

After Saturday's game was a wash out the Royals and the Twins will try again on Sunday with Bruce Chen and Jason Marquis squaring off on the mound.

Since losing 12 straight games the Royals have won three straight. Interestingly the Royals are 6-4 on the road but are still looking for their first home victory of the season where they are 0-10.

The Kansas City Royals' bullpen had been hurting. After being overworked in the series against the Cleveland Indians, Everett Teaford's short outing last night extended the team's pitching staff to its tipping point. Ned Yost said before today's second game against the Minnesota Twins that he was hoping for help from Mother Nature and apparently his prayers worked.

Brucen Chen was slated to take on Jason Marquis in a match-up of veteran pitchers. Now the Royals have to hope that the day off doesn't hurt the team's newfound positive momentum. For the Twins, they've lost six in a row, so the day off could serve them well.

The series against the Twins continues tomorrow afternoon at 1:10pm ET.

The Kansas City Royals square off today against the Minnesota Twins hoping for their fourth win in a row, while the Twins hope to stave off losing their seventh in a row. It's a match-up of two veteran pitchers looking to have a say in their respective team's momentum with Jason Marquis taking the mound for the Twins and Bruce Chen doing the same for KC.

Alex Gordon looks to extend his incredible last week of hitting today and Bruce Chen's 0-2 record is hoping for more run support than he usually gets. Given the way the Royals' bats have come alive lately, today is his best chance for his first win.
