The Missouri St. Bears were facing an elimination game against against the host Miami Hurricanes and the Bears brought the offense to eliminate the Hurricanes 12-2. The Bears scored nine runs in the first two innings including batting around in the bottom of the first where they scored seven of those runs.

Miami's starting pitcher Steven Ewing only pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up seven runs, six hits and walked a pair. His replacement Javi Salas did only sightly better but he gave up two more runs to the Bears in only 1 and 1/3 innings. In those first two innings the Bears were just able to get hit after hit against Ewing and Salas to build their lead.

Miami was able to score a pair of runs in the top of the third inning of Missouri State's starting pitcher Pierce Johnson, but that was the scoring that the Hurricanes would get all day.

Johnson ended up pitching eight strong innings and only allowed six hits and struck out seven batters. Missouri State added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to go up 12-2.

There were so many players for Missouri State who had a great game but two of the better performances came from Brent Seifert who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI, and then Keenen Maddox who went 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI.

The Missouri State Bears were unable to start their tournament run on the good foot as they dropped their opener versus the UCF Knights 2-1 on Friday. It was a game up for grabs, but missed opportunities from the Bears offense proved costly. While the Bears look to heal their wounds in the losers' bracket, they now have an unexpected opponent awaiting them on Saturday.

The Bears were to face the loser of Friday's second game, featuring top seeded Miami (36-21) and the No. 4 seed Stony Brook (46-11). In an upset, Stony Brook trounced Miami 10-2, thus placing the host and top-seed Hurricanes in an elimination game that starts at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday. The Canes looked lethargic on Saturday, making the Seawolves look like world beaters. Miami's coach Jim Morris shared his sentiments after the game.

"This is the worst big game that the University of Miami has played in my entire coaching career - in all phases. I'm very sad to have watched the way we played the game tonight." -- UM head coach Jim Morris

Missouri State will make its first postseason appearance in nine years on Friday, when they face off against UCF in the Coral Gables Regional.

Missouri State (39-20) will make its eighth all-time appearance in the NCAA Baseball Tournament on Friday when they begin play in the Coral Gables Regional against C-USA upstart UCF (43-15). The Bears arrive to Miami after a 2-2 showing in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament last week, strong enough to earn them the No. 3 seed in the Regional, thanks to a second place finish in the No. 5 RPI conference MVC.

Missouri State has proven to be a tough out in the NCAA Regionals historically - they've won at least two games in their last five postseason appearances, but haven't made the Regionals since the 2003 season. They've never faced Stony Brook or UCF, and are 0-2 lifetime against Miami. The winner of the game will face the winner of Friday's Miami vs. Stony Brook game Saturday afternoon.
