The Kansas City Royals dropped a 15-4 decision to the Cleveland Indians on Sunday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium. Rookie pitcher Jake Odorizzi took a loss in his MLB debut, despite having a decent first outing.

Odorizzi rolled through the first five innings of the game, holding the Indians scoreless while allowing just two hits. However, the youngster hit a wall in the sixth, as he allowed two singles, a triple and a home run in the inning before exiting with one out. Overall, he gave up three runs on six hits and a walk in 5.1 innings, while striking out three.

Things didn't get much better for the Royals after that, as the Indians tacked on five runs in the seventh inning and another seven in the ninth. Jeremy Jeffress was tagged with the majority of the damage, as he allowed six runs in the final frame.

Cleveland pounded out 16 hits, led by three apiece from Carlos Santana and Michael Brantley. Two of Santana's hits cleared the wall, and he also drove in five runs.

Catcher Adam Moore hit a home run for the Royals in his first big league at-bat of the season. Jeff Francoeur had a nice day as well, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Jake Odorizzi, obtained from Milwaukee in the Zack Greinke deal, will make his Major League debut on Sunday when the Royals (70-81) go for a weekend sweep of the visiting Cleveland Indians (62-90). Kansas City has won seven straight games against Cleveland, outscoring the Indians 45-22 in the process.

Odorizzi had a strong year in the minors, going 11-3 with a 2.93 ERA for Triple-A Omaha, and is expected to be part of the 2013 Kansas City rotation.

For the Indians, David Huff (1-0, 2.61 ERA) will take the hill in just his second start of 2012. He allowed seven hits and three runs in 4.1 innings on Tuesday against the Minnesota Twins.

The Kansas City Royals used a three-run fifth inning to defeat the Cleveland Indians 5-3 Saturday night. The Royals' victory guarantees a series win against the Indians, as KC notched its fourth win in a row.

Kansas City used an Alcides Escobar double and a single off the bat of Billy Butler to take an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Indians came back with two runs of their own in the top of the fifth, as second baseman Cord Phelps took Royals starter Will Smith deep.

Cleveland then took the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning, using a fielder’s choice, sacrifice fly and single to plate three runs. The Indians scored once in the eighth to cut the Royals’ lead to two, but Kelvin Herrera shut the door in the ninth to collect his second save of the season and secure KC’s win.

Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez will sit out all weekend with sore hands from foul balls, but will return for a four-game series starting on Monday at Detroit, according to MLB.com.

The injuries haven't stopped Perez from producing, but he is admittedly banged up. He was able to pick off his fifth runner of the season on Thursday and threw out his 14th would-be base-stealer on Wednesday, so his play has not slipped.

Brayan Pena started at catcher on Friday and will more than likely do it again on Saturday in Perez's place. Adam Moore will take his spot behind the plate on Sunday, prior to Perez's return on Monday.

Perez joins left fielder Alex Gordon as two Royals out with injuries. Gordon hurt himself while sliding in the sixth inning of Thursday's game against the Chicago White Sox.

The Kansas City Royals host the Cleveland Indians at Kaufman Stadium Saturday, looking for their second win in a row against the Indians, and their fourth win in a row overall. The Royals defeated the Indians 6-3 Friday night. Will Smith will take the mound for the Royals, facing Ubaldo Jimenez for the Indians.

Smith is 5-8 on the season, having lost 4 of his last 5 decisions. Smith currently stands with a 5.08 ERA. Jimenez is 9-16 entering Saturday's game with a 5.43 ERA.

The Kansas City Royals held off a late surge to overcome the Cleveland Indians in the first of a three game series, winning 6-3. The Indians pulled to within a run in the 7th inning as Indians catcher Carlos Santana drove in Asdrubal Cabrera and Shin-Soo Choo, bringing the score to 4-3. The Royals responded in the 8th with two runs of their own, sealing the victory.

Kansas City catcher Brayan Pena drove in right fielder Jeff Francoeur in the 2nd inning, giving Kansas City a lead they would not surrender. Pena drove in Francoeur again in the 8th to give Kansas City extra cushion, and securing the 6-3 victory.

Luis Mendoza picked up the win for the Royals, bringing him to 8-9 on the year. Greg Holland earned the save.

The Kansas City Royals are beginning a new three-game sereis as they travel on the road to face the Cleveland Indians Friday night. Luis Mendoza is back on the mound after missing his scheduled start last Wednesday due to a sore throat. In his last start, Mendoza played great by holding the Minnesota Twins to only two hits and one run over six innings, plus he struck out six batters.

The Royals are making some changes from Thursdays's loss to the Chicago White Sox. Jarrod Dyson is in the leadoff spot and patrolling centerfield and David Lough earned the nod at left field and is hitting eighth.
The Kansas City Royals open a three-game series with the Cleveland Indians Friday.

The Kansas City Royals open the first of two season-ending series against the Cleveland Indians Friday. Kansas City comes into Friday's game on the heels of a series win over the first-place Chicago White Sox, capped with a walk-off win Thursday night.

Kansas City will hand the ball to Luis Mendoza, who missed his start Wednesday with strep throat. Mendoza was brilliant in his last start, holding the Minnesota Twins to 1 run and 2 hits over 6 innings while striking out 6. Mendoza has made three appearances against Cleveland this season. In his last start against the Tribe on August 1, he pitched 7 1/3 innings and gave up just 2 earned runs on 4 hits.

Cleveland sends veteran righty Justin Masterson to the mound Friday. Masterson has had a disappointing season, going 11-14 with a 4.93 ERA. In his one start against Kansas City in 2012, the Royals roughed him up, scoring 8 runs in 6 innings on May 29.

First pitch is set for 7:10 CT. As always, television coverage is available on Fox Sports Kansas City, and radio coverage is on KCSP 610 AM.
