Kansas State Wildcats running back John Hubert is off to a stellar start to the year for coach Bill Snyder's team.

While Collin Klein is making his case for Heisman votes, Kansas State running back John Hubert is quietly putting up a big season behind his talented quarterback. Against the Kansas Jayhawks Saturday, the junior rushed for 101 yards on just 10 attempts and scored four touchdowns in the 56-16 route.

KSU head coach Bill Snyder said that the offensive line and fullback Braden Wilson have opened all the right holes for Hubert, but he credited his running back with doing something with the holes, per a postgame transcript from the team's website:

"Our offensive line did a nice job, his fullback Braden (Wilson) had a nice game blocking for him and he (Hubert) is pretty good about not making an awful lot of mistakes fitting the ball where he does not have a chance. He does not run it in the wrong holes; he puts it were it needs to be. He has got good vision and is able to see more than what is just right in front of his nose."

Despite the impressive numbers, Hubert was second on the team in rushing. Klein took 10 carries for 116 yards and two touchdowns.

On the year, Hubert has 76 attempts for 527 yards and eight touchdowns. Hubert broke out during his sophomore season, taking 200 carries for 970 yards and three touchdowns last year.

After thrashing the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday, the Kansas State Wildcats find themselves atop the Big 12 standings, with a 2-0 record.

It's been a tale of two programs so far in 2012 for the state of Kansas, as the Kansas State Wildcats find themselves sitting atop the Big 12 standings, while the Kansas Jayhawks are in last place.

The Wildcats obliterated the Jayhawks on Saturday, winning 56-16, and highlighting the differences between the two programs. Kansas State clearly is a BCS contender, while Charlie Weis' Jayhawks are in full-on rebuild mode.

Kansas State will head to Iowa on Saturday to take on the Iowa State Cyclones, as the Wildcats look to improve to 3-0 in Big 12 play so far. In addition to defeating Kansas, Kansas State marched into Norman, Okla., and defeated the Oklahoma Sooners, 24-19.

The Wildcats' next big test will come on Oct. 20, when they head to West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers.

Kansas, meanwhile, will look for its first Big 12 win of the year on Saturday, when it hosts the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

The polls were thrown into chaos after a number of upsets inside the top 10. Kansas State was a beneficiary, moving up three spots to No. 5 in the latest Coaches Poll.

Unlike the AP Poll, the Kansas State Wildcats were not jumped by anyone in the latest Week 7 Coaches Poll. The Wildcats took care of business against their rival Kansas on Saturday, while the rest of the top 10 was thrown into chaos. K-State moved up three spots in the latest Coaches Poll thanks to losses by LSU, FSU, and Georgia. West Virginia's upset win over Texas kept the Mountaineers ahead of Bill Snyder's team, but those two will meet in two weeks in Morgantown in what will likely be a showdown for Big 12 supremacy in the polls.

Oklahoma is the next representative of the Big 12, moving up to No. 10 in advance of this week's Red River Rivalry game. The complete Week 7 poll below.

Kansas State is jumped by West Virginia, Florida in this week's AP Top 25.

The Kansas State Wildcats rose in the rankings, but it's clear they still have yet to earn the respect of national voters even after defeating the Oklahoma Sooners on the road and taking out the Kansas Jayhawks by 40 at home. They're only No. 6, after all, and were jumped in the standings by West Virginia and Florida in this week's AP Top 25.

Instead of garnering enough votes to crack the top five, K-State is stil left outside of the party and they stand in the Big 12 shadow of Geno Smith and the Mountaineers. Interestingly enough, the SEC still earns enough attention and respect to jump two more teams into the top five even after losing LSU and Georgia. Here's the complete rundown.

Kansas State struggled in the first half against in-state rival Kansas before pulling away for a 56-16 win over the Jayhawks.

The No. 7 Kansas State Wildcats routed in-state rival Kansas 56-16 on Saturday at Bill Snyder Stadium in Manhattan, Kans. The Jayhawks actually held a 14-7 lead early in the game, and trailed by just seven points at halftime, but the Wildcats poured it on in the second half, outscoring Kansas 35-2 in the game's final two quarters.

Kansas State struggled in the first half mainly because they chose to throw more than run, a tactical error that when changed led to the bludgeoning of the Jayhawks defense. Poor timeout management and play-calling prevented an even bigger Wildcats halftime margin, but aside from those first half flaws the folks at SB Nation's Kansas State blog Bring On The Cats found plenty of positives in the win:

OK, we've covered all the bad. Let's move on to the good.

In the third quarter, K-State outscored KU 28-2. Turnovers and fumbles and the running of John Hubert and Klein buried the school down the river.

Overall, this was a bizarre football game. KU dominated the time of possession with almost a 14-minute edge, and ran 30 more plays than K-State. But the Wildcats gained 87 more yards and had five fewer turnovers. Despite the first-half mistakes, Klein threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more, and Hubert added four touchdowns and 101 yards of his own.

With another Sunday comes another round of college football rankings -- both the USA Today/Coaches poll and the Associated Press poll. That means that the Kansas State Wildcats will be movin' on up, as they say, in the rankings with another win while others like LSU and Florida State take a dive due to upsets.

The Wildcats dominated their in-state rival Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday in the 110th Sunflower Showdown. It should be enough to move them up in the rankings, but will it move them into the top five? That will be the question facing doubters on the national level when analyzing Kansas State's football program.

LSU lost to Florida and Florida State was upset by North Carolina State. Both programs were immediately ahead of K-State, but it's also possible for higher profile programs like Florida and West Virginia to overtake K-State and make the top five instead. It will be interesting to see.

The Big 12 gauntlet will eventually place K-State among the top programs in the country if the Wildcats can stay afloat. Then again, it might be that very schedule that brings them down in the end.

For now the question facing voters is simple: Is Bill Snyder's team one of the five best in the country? We will find out that perception soon enough.

The Kansas Jayhawks had no answer for the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday. The Wildcats ran away to a 56-16 win in the Sunflower Showdown.

The No. 7 Kansas State Wildcats routed the Kansas Jayhawks, 56-16, on Saturday afternoon at Bill Snyder Stadium in Manhattan Kan. The Wildcats held just a seven-point lead at halftime before pulling away in the second half.

Behind two touchdown runs from running back John Hubert, the Wildcats outscored the Jayhawks, 28-2, in the third quarter to turn a 21-14 lead into a 49-16 laugher. The Wildcats would add another score early in the fourth, which came from the benefit of a Dayne Crist interception late in the third. Kansas kept up with Kansas State in total yardage throughout the game, but five turnovers -- including four in that pivotal third quarter -- doomed the Jayhawks.

Hubert and quarterback Collin Klein combined for eight touchdowns for Kansas State. Kansas running back James Sims gained 115 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Crist completed 16 of 27 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown. He threw three interceptions.

Box Score Hero: Klein only threw 14 passes, completing seven of them for 129 yards. However, two of those went for touchdowns. Klein did plenty of damage with his feet as well, rushing for 116 yards and a two scores.

Hubert deserves a serious look here, too. He carried the ball just 10 times, but eclipsed the century mark in rushing yards while also scoring four touchdowns.

Rankings Ramifications: Kansas State should be in line for a bump up, as the Wildcats will likely move ahead of the loser of No. 5 Georgia and No. 6 South Carolina.

But Did They Cover? Kansas State entered the game as 25-point favorites, and while that looked to be in jeopardy for a good portion of the game, the Wildcats wound up blowing that figure out of the water. Kansas State nearly eclipsed the over/under of 57 on their own.

No. 7 Kansas State dominated the third quarter of Saturday's game in Manhattan, Kan., and the Wildcats now hold a 33-point lead over Kansas.

The No. 7 Kansas State Wildcats pulled away from the Kansas Jayhawks in the third quarter, and now hold a 49-16 lead. Wildcats running back John Hubert returned to the field after a second-quarter injury to rush for two touchdowns in the quarter.

Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein got the scoring started in the second half, finding Travis Tannahill for a 2-yard score less than five minutes into the quarter. Kansas was able to respond with a couple of points, tackling Hubert in the endzone one play after Jayhawks quarterback Dayne Crist was intercepted at the Kansas State 2-yard line. That seemingly gave Kansas some momentum, but that was taken away when Tre' Parmalee fumbled the ensuing free kick. Hubert scored on a 32-yard run on the next play.

Crist threw another interception just three plays into Kansas' next possession, and Hubert scored again just three plays later. Crist is 16-of-27 for 189 yards with a touchdown and three picks on the day. Meanwhile, Klein has completed seven of 14 passes for 129 yards and a couple of scores. He has also rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
