It was over nearly as soon as it began. Behind 677 yards of offense, the Sooners rolled over Texas in the Red River Shootout.

SB Nation Oklahoma blog Crimson and Cream Machine summarized the Sooners' 63-21 rout of rival Texas Saturday very well.

There are no "advanced metric" numbers that will make Texas fans feel any better about what their Longhorns experienced at the hands of the Sooners on Saturday in the Cotton Bowl. The Longhorns were beaten fundamentally by an Oklahoma team that was better prepared and able to execute on both sides of the ball. They were beaten numerically in every aspect of the game, including the scoreboard, in one of the most spastically lopsided affairs in the history of this storied rivalry.

For whatever advanced statistics will show, the basic ones were particularly shocking. The Sooner had 677 total yards in the game, and held a 314-12 advantage in the second quarter. Oklahoma running back Damien Williams had the longest run in the history of the Red River Shootout, hauling 95 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.

Any offense that racks up 677 yards and eight touchdowns had a pretty decent game. Crimson and Cream lays credit on the offensive and defensive game plans, something that seems to be becoming a trend for the Sooners.

For the second week in a row Oklahoma offensive coordinator Josh Heupel called a seemingly perfect game plan, leaving more than just a glimmer of hope that he is coming into the job. The adjustments that (defensive coordinator) Mike Stoops made with the defense should trouble Texas fans at how simple it was to remove the Longhorn offense as a factor.

In fact, coaching is becoming very much one-sided in this rivalry, according to Crimson and Cream.

...Bob Stoops walked off the field with a 9-5 career record against Mack Brown which all but ends the argument regarding who was the better of the two coaches. Texas fans know it as well. As they sit and listen to Brown attempt to explain his fourth blowout loss and, second consecutive, the reality sits in that of all of the mismatches on the field today, the greatest one was between the two coaches on the sidelines.

The Sooners embarrassed the Longhorns in a 63-21 drubbing on Saturday afternoon that raised questions about the direction of the Texas program.

Riding a balanced offensive attack and a dominant defensive effort, the Oklahoma Sooners crushed the Texas Longhorns 63-21 in the Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday afternoon. The 13th-ranked Sooners never looked in danger as they continue their recovery from a loss to Kansas State three weeks ago.

Until the end, the blowout approached the series margin of victory record. In 2003, Oklahoma topped Texas by 52 points.

While the Longhorns managed to put 21 points on the scoreboard, the offense looked inept practically all afternoon. Only 13 of the team's points were provided by the offensive unit, which mustered just 289 total yards and 14 first downs against the Sooners' defense, much of that coming once the game was already well in hand.

With the offense struggling, Texas needed a failed extra point attempt by Oklahoma and an interception return by cornerback Carrington Byndom to even get on the scoreboard in the first three quarters. Other than Byndom's pick-six, the defense didn't help much, either, allowing the Sooners to run wild all afternoon.

Oklahoma wasn't as aggressive in the second half, but it still managed to put up 677 total yards and eight touchdowns against the Longhorns' defense. It was an especially even attack, too, as the Sooners piled up 334 yards through the air and 343 yards on the ground.

Box Score Hero: A few different players put up huge numbers for the Sooners on Saturday, led by running back Damien Williams, who rushed for 167 yards and a touchdown. OU also got 321 passing yards from Landry Jones and four first half touchdowns from Blake Bell, who crushed the Texas defense in the red zone.

Rankings Ramifications: Coming off a second consecutive defeat, expect the 15th-ranked Longhorns to take a mighty fall in the rankings this week. A couple weeks ago, it seemed like Mack Brown finally brought Texas back into the national conversation, but the Sooners have quickly put that notion to sleep for now.

But Did They Cover? The Sooners were three-point favorites, so they obviously covered.

It's a blowout at the Cotton Bowl, where the Texas Longhorns are trailing 36-2 to the Oklahoma Sooners going into halftime on Saturday afternoon.

The Red River Rivalry has turned into a bloodbath for the Texas Longhorns as they trail the Oklahoma Sooners, 36-2, going into halftime on Saturday afternoon. Coming off a razor close defeat against West Virginia last week, the Longhorns can't seem to get anything working on either side of the ball heading into the second half at the Cotton Bowl.

Thirty minutes into Saturday's game, the 13th-ranked Sooners have absolutely dominated the 15th-ranked Longhorns in nearly every way. Regardless of whether you're looking at offense or defense, passing or rushing, Texas has been outclassed so far.

After scoring 45 points against the Mountaineers last week, the Longhorns have put up 65 total yards and nearly as many turnovers (two) as first downs (three). It's a stark contrast from Oklahoma's huge effort: 206 rushing yards, 201 passing yards, five touchdowns and over 20 minutes of possession.

The Longhorns' few points aren't even the result of the offense, as they came as the result of a failed extra point by the Sooners early in the first quarter. It's been all downhill from there, though, with Oklahoma piling on points in front of a packed stadium.

Sooners running back Damien Williams has been the big statistical performer in the first half with 145 rushing yards and a touchdown, but Blake Bell has certainly done his part by running in four touchdowns already as well. Between those two and a solid effort from quarterback Landry Jones, Texas has struggled to keep up.

The books give the Sooners an edge in Saturday's Red River Shootout

Oklahoma is favored by oddsmakers to beat the Texas Longhorns this Saturday in Dallas. Most books opened with the Sooners as three-point favorites, and the line hasn't moved much since.

The 4-1 Longhorns and 3-1 Sooners have both dropped a game in Big 12 play before their meeting at the Cotton Bowl, something that hasn't often been true in this series. Neither team can afford another loss to keep pace with West Virginia and Kansas State in the conference race.

Texas has averaged 46.8 points per game, and will face an Oklahoma defense that's allowed 16 ppg. The Sooners are scoring 38.3 ppg, and the Longhorns have allowed 26.4 ppg. The over-under is set at 60 at most shops.

Oklahoma is 4-8 against the spread in its last 12 conference games. Texas is 2-7 ATS in its last nine games playing as the underdog. The Sooners are 8-4 straight up in their last 12 games against Texas.

Oklahoma and Texas face off this weekend in the 107th edition of the Red River Rivalry

The Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns aren't accustomed to meeting in Dallas with anything but a zero in the loss column. This year's Red River Shootout marks only the second meeting of the two perennial Big 12 powers since 1997, when both have already lost in conference play.

Oklahoma and Texas are both chasing the two top 10 teams still undefeated in Big 12 play -- West Virginia, which beat Texas in Austin, and Kansas State, which beat Oklahoma in Norman. The Mountaineers and Wildcats meet in Morgantown on Oct. 20. The winner of this week's Oklahoma-Texas game will have a far better chance of keeping up in the race for the conference championship, should those two teams fall off the pace.

The Sooners have beat Texas both of the last two years, including a 55-17 blowout win in 2011. Both offenses have been potent thus far in 2012: Texas averages 46.8 points per game, and Oklahoma is scoring 38.3 p.p.g. The Longhorns are giving up 26.4 points a game and the Sooners are allowing 16 per game.

The 107th Red River Shootout will be broadcast on ABC at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday.
