Sporting KC claimed the Eastern Conference's top spot for the second year in a row with a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday night.
In their final game of the regular season, Sporting KC treated 19,428 of its fans to a win when C.J. Sapong put home a shot from the right side of the box in the 81st minute for the 2-1 win. The win gave KC a record of 18-7-9, and with 63 points KC leads D.C. United by six points. United has only one game remaining.
KC's first goal came in the 39th minute when Jacob Peterson put home a shot from head on. Both of KC's goals were assisted by Kei Kamara.
The playoff matchups for the Eastern Conference are still to be determined, as games involving the Chicago Fire and DC United (who play each other) and the New York Red Bulls this Saturday will affect those matchups.
