With every game in the 2012 MLS regular season now in the books, Sporting Kansas City have officially taken the top spot in the Eastern Conference. They were helped in the final week by a victory over the Philadelphia Union as well as DC United's inability to beat the Chicago Fire in their final game.
In the end, SKC finished up with 63 points, five above DC, which finished in second place. SKC were the top team in the East in terms of wins, earning an 18-7-9 record throughout the regular season. With the MLS Cup playoffs coming, they'll be looking to win "the double" following their Open Cup victory earlier in the season.
Had things gone their way, SKC may have even had a shot at a "treble." Kansas City were close to the Supporters' Shield, missing out on the prize for the top team in MLS by only three points. They will have the privilege of hosting their first playoff game of 2012 at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park following the Wild Card round of the MLS Playoffs.
