Jacob Peterson injury: Sporting KC forward will be out 4 months following surgery

Sporting KC forward Jacob Peterson will miss four months of action.

Sporting Kansas City announced Monday that forward Jacob Peterson will be out for four months after undergoing surgery to repair his right shoulder.

Peterson injured his shoulder on July 28 in a 2-1 loss to the Columbus Crew. He returned on Sept. 14 against the Houston Dynamo after missing five matches. The 26-year-old Peterson, in his seventh season out of Indiana, played in 23 matches for Sporting KC this season, tallying four goals, which tied a career high.

This was Peterson's first season with Sporting KC. He signed with the team in January after splitting time between the San Jose Earthquakes and Toronto FC in 2011. He played his first four seasons with the Colorado Rapids.

Sporting KC's season ended in disappointing fashion last week. After finishing the regular season with the most points and the top seed in the Eastern Conference, KC was ousted by Houston in a two-game aggregate by the score of 2-1.
