Julio Cesar injury: Sporting KC midfielder doubtful for Dynamo game

Sporting KC's season is on the line Wednesday night, and it's doubtful that starting defensive midfielder Julio Cesar will be able to play.

Sporing KC's season is over unless it beats the Houston Dynamo by more than two goals Wednesday night, and it appears as though the team will have to accomplish that task without defensive midfielder Julio Cesar, who is doubtful for the game.

Cesar sustained a quadriceps injury late in KC's loss to Houston on Sunday, and manager Peter Vermes didn't think Cesar would be able to play Wednesday night. Paulo Nagamura, who didn't play Sunday, is also questionable for Wednesday's game.

Sporting KC and Houston meet in the second game of their two-game aggregate Eastern Conference semifinal Wednesday night. Houston won the first game on Sunday, 2-0. If regulation ends with KC up by two goals, two extra 15-minute periods will be played, and then, if the teams are still tied on aggregate, penalty kicks will determine the round's winner.

KC led the Eastern Conference with 63 points, while Houston managed to nab the conference's fifth seed and win the knockout round over Chicago.

Wednesday night's game is set for 8 p.m. CT from Kansas City.
