Fans of Sporting KC probably aren't having the best day following their team's elimination at the hands of the Houston Dynamo Wednesday night in the MLS Cup Eastern conference semifinals. KC won 1-0 Wednesday, but lost the series with a 2-1 aggregate score with the Dynamo's 2-0 win on Sunday.
Still, those fans can rest easy knowing how much their players appreciate their support. Forward C.J. Sapong said as much following the loss:
"We have the best fans in the league, no doubt. They give us pride and energy, so thanks to them for helping us big time this season. They were great every single game."
Defender Seth Sinovic also was complimentary of the fan support:
"This team wouldn't have been as successful without the fans. Every single game day they showed up and they were loud. It's an honor to play in front of them. You couldn't ask for more from the fans and the entire organization, really."
It's a disappointing end to a great all-around season for Sporting KC. The team's 63 points were the most of any Eastern Conference team, earning KC the No. 1 seed in the conference playoffs. Only San Jose in the Western Conference had more regular-season points. The loss to Houston has to be considered an upset, as the Dynamo barely made the playoffs with the No. 5 seed and had to beat No. 4 Chicago in a knockout game before advancing to play KC.
