Sporting KC went on the road to face the Montreal Impact and came away with three important points and the 3-1 road victory. But from their comments after the game, it’s clear that no one was too happy with the performance overall despite the positive outcome. That’s because the game was closer than the final score would indicate and the play overall wasn’t sharp.
"It was one of those ugly games," said forward Kei Kamara. "But it’s finally about time when we can have an ugly game and then get points from it. So we’ll take the points back home and get back to what we’ve been doing."
Kamara had one of two goals off of penalty kicks, along with Graham Zusi. Jacob Peterson scored the third goal for Sporting with a score in the 82nd minute.
"We didn’t play really well tonight," center back Aurélien Collin said. "Montreal had more [scoring] occasions in the first half. We got lucky today. We’re happy about the result, but not about our performance."
Sporting KC now heads home to face Houston.
