Mizzou's Candace Johnson Named SEC Freshman Of The Week

The University of Missouri women's soccer team's Candace Johnson was named the Southeastern Conference's Freshman of the Week on Monday. The league announced the award on Monday.

Seeing as this was Missouri's first week in the SEC, Johnson is immediately its first SEC award winner.

The defender helped Missouri start the season 2-0. First was a 5-1 victory over Memphis on Friday, followed by a 2-0 win over UC Santa Barbara on Sunday.

Johnson scored the Tigers' first goal of her college career and her team's first goal of the season against Memphis in the 15th minute. She started and played all 90 minutes in the opening game. In Sunday's game, she played 70 minutes.

Next up for Johnson and the Tigers: a trip to Berkeley on August 9 to play the California Bears.
